New Release Scheduled
We are planning a new release of Movable Type for next Monday, October 22. This release will be distributed in two forms: as a full release, and as an upgrade.
Among an assortment of bug fixes and stability improvements, here are some of the bigger features that will be included in the next release, version 1.1:
- Added the ability to delete authors and blogs.
- You can now preview comments before posting them; you define the layout of the preview page using the new Comment Preview template.
- Bookmarklet windows are now customizable: for example, if you feel that the bookmarklet window really needs a control to select the category for the new entry, you can customize the window to include this control. The customizable fields are: category, excerpt, more text, and allow comments checkbox.
- Added Nickname field to author record, along with new MTEntryAuthorNickname tag to display it. This allows using a different name for display than for login.
- Template Modules, small chunks of HTML that you use throughout your site (like headers, footers, etc.); you can encapsulate chunks of HTML in one place, then include them into your templates using the new MTInclude tag.
- Improved out-of-box compatibility with NT and IIS.
- When creating a new blog, the default templates will automatically be imported into that new blog.
- If your machine does not have sendmail, MT can now send mail using SMTP.
We are going out of town for the weekend, so we will not be answering email messages or patrolling the support forums.
