February 2005 Archives
Welcome to the new home of Movable Type! I want to tell you all a little bit about what we've done and point out all of the regular features that you're used to — they're all still here. But first, let me address the reasons why we did it.
First and foremost, we are a blogging company. Our three solutions -- Movable Type, TypePad and LiveJournal all offer something unique and valuable to three distinct audiences. By pulling all of our products and services under the Six Apart umbrella, we make sure that each person can find the perfect solution to fit their needs as well as learn about the company behind them.
Second, since all three sites have grown organically, pieces and parts have accumulated over time, sometimes in places that were less than accessible. By redesigning the website from the top down, we got the chance to arrange everything so that you can find the resources you need quickly and easily.
Finally, we believe in our products and wanted to show what at least one of them could really do. That's right! Every single part of this site — every page, include, feed and widget — is built by Movable Type.
Needless to say, we couldn't be prouder.
Where is everything?
The first thing you'll notice is that just about everything you'll need is listed or linked to from the center column of the main Movable Type page.
We've made sure that your account and the knowledge base is front and center since it's the first place all paid customers should go if they have any trouble or want to inquire about their account.
Below that are links to the general product support section (including documentation and the user forums), developer documentation at Pronet and partner information. Finally, you'll notice that the plugin directory (at it's brand new shiny home -- also powered by MT!) is linked at the bottom right.
There may be a few things that have been missed in the shuffle, but rest assured they will all be fixed in the coming days.
Pushing blogging software
We're very proud of the work of our web production team and everyone involved in the redesign and we hope that you enjoy the fruits of their dedication and hard work.
More than that though, I hope our redesign has given you Movable Type users some inspiration for pushing the limits with the software. Soon we'll be publishing a case study to show you how we did it and what lessons we learned.
Until then, we look forward to hearing your feedback on the site. Also make sure to check out Mena's Corner for her insights on the changes and our post on Six Apart News with a Q&A about the redesign.
