Jian Shuo Wang: Friends Around The World
One of the things that's most gratifying and exciting about helping people start blogging is that it's a truly international effort. That point was vibrantly demonstrated for us recently when we were visited last month by Jian Shuo Wang. The photo below illustrates Jian Shuo stopping by our San Francisco office to celebrate the five year anniversary of his blog, and in honor of his birthday today, it's our pleasure to name Jian Shuo's blog our Movable Type Featured Blog.

Jian Shuo began blogging on September 11, 2002, an anniversary that he commemorated on his blog. In those five years, he's done a fanastic job of using Movable Type to cover the topic so simply stated at the top of his blog: Events (in Shanghai) that affect my life (and others'). Since then, he's won many accolades, not just as one of the most popular English-language blogs in the Chinese blogosphere, but as a Top 10 Chinese Blog as well as dozens of other accolades. And of course, Jian Shuo is known professionally for his leadership of eBay's Kijiji venture in China.
We celebrated this blogging milestone with a little party, complete with cake, but perhaps the most touching part for those of us who work here was the words that Jian Shuo shared on his blog:
At the 5 years of anniversary, I cannot ignore a great team that is behind the software I am using - the Six Apart team who created MovableType. My blog actually started with a trail run of MovableType (my first entry was about it. Then I love the software and I use it every day. It is the only software (besides operating system) that I use everyday. The great architecture, the powerful template system, and flexible archiving features really made this blog possible. More importantly, I am inspired by the team and have strong personal connection with them.
Though we talk a lot about the ability of blogs to improve communications around the world, it's especially gratifying to see the evidence first-hand in the form of friendships we've formed over half a decade of reaching people from our base in San Francisco all the way to Shanghai. We've been proud to help Jian Shuo share his experiences from a distinctly Chinese perspective, and perhaps this Vox post by Ginger Tulley on our team does the best job of showing the kinds of relationships that she, like so many on our team, have been able to form all over the world with our Movable Type community.
